A Tribute to my Sweet Mom~!

Happy Mother's Day to all my sweet readers~!
It's been a few years since I've been without my dear Mom who passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.  I never wanted to remember her for the latter years but wanted to remember her as she was when she loved life.  If there was one word that could describe my Mom it would have been love.   You know when someone loves you and I never doubted her love towards me.  Never.

Living in Germany during World War II brought many hardships to her life.  She was a survivor.  She lived on the streets scavenging for food to survive.  She was put in a camp for children and seperated from her father who was also put in a camp.  She yearned for freedom and came to America for a new beginning.  She loved her adopted country and welcomed the troops home from the Persian Gulf waving a flag on the side of the road as they came home in buses along the highway
Her determination and love for life has made me who I am today.
I was her youngest child and remember fondly how she would take my chin in her hand and tell me,  "You will always be my baby no matter how old you are."  As Alzheimers disease was eating away her mind I sat next to her weeping.  Her hands waved in frustration and then her hand came up to hold my chin, and she said,  "Don't cry."  Those were the last words I heard her say.  I believe she did that in a moment of clarity.
I will always be your baby Mom!  And you'll always be mine!  I love you with all my heart!

  2. Oh what a precious tribute to your mom! That is an awful disease. My oldest brother has it. Fortunately he still knows who we all are, but we can see how the disease is slowly eating away at him day by day and making him feel fearful as he forgets where things are and forgets what words to use.

How blessed you were to have that moment of clarity with your mom, such a sweet gift! Thanks for linking up to the "Making Your Home Sing Monday" linky party today! :)

  4. Oh, what a loving tribute. I have tears in my eyes from reading this. Not only were you blessed to be her baby, but she was blessed to be your mom. This is one of the best Mother's Day tributes I read. You should be very proud.

Thanks so much for sharing this portrait of your mother with us. What a wonderful woman, and I love the fact that she was such an overcomer after the great pains of her early life. And I can see her out waving her flag as the troops came home. So sweet.

    XO,

    Sheila
