Bird's Nest Centerpiece

Its been a while since I've posted anything decor related.  With the coming of spring and Easter I saw so many other blogs featuring Egg Vignettes and I really wanted to try my hand at it too!  I scoured the Target dollar bins since I had seen some premade nests but I would have to dissassemble them and would have only gotten 3 eggs with holes in them where they were wired into the nest.  In the decor area I found a box full of 9 eggs with the nesting material which was way more than I needed.

I pulled out some of the white china cups out  of my hutch and this is what I came up with.
I set it atop my thrifted milk glass cake stand and platter...
...and added a cloche on top to keep the dust off.
It sits on my kitchen table and I LOVE it!

Milk Glass and Sweetheart Flour Sacks

I've been wanting to get some new kitchen towels to match my Sweetheart Kitchen and I happened upon these at the thrift store last week for .50 cents each.
I believe they were still new since it felt like the sizing was still on them.
Love them!
And I also happened upon a milk glass candy dish or 2 dollars

My New "Cloche"

I love cloches and have been scouting for them as I shop.  Last Monday at the thrift store I ran into this~  2.50 marked down half price to 1.25.  So I brought it home and started trying how it fit on different things~

I already had the mini cake stand so here's how it looks~
This red salad plate was .35 cents...
...and the large yellow dinner plate was .35 cents also.
I know that it's not 'officially' a cloche.   It's probably the top a of a cheese dish where the bottom has gone missing but I love it anyways!

Raggedy Ann and Andy

I've been looking for a set of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for years now with no success.  My heart has been set on finding the same set as when I was a kid and they are ridonkulously expensive!  This morning I took a trip to the thrift store and found these.

A close up of both~

And Mr Andy~

These aren't the ones I had as a kid.  They are hand made (with no hearts on their chest) but I love them anyhow and they make me smile!  And here's where I'm keeping them in my sweetheart kitchen~not sure if this is a permanent home or not.  ;)

Basketweave Coffee Cups and Red Tea Towel

I was able to hit my fave thrift store on Monday and came away with a few great things.  I had MUCH more in my basket and started whittling away things the closer I got to the checkout since I've been trying to be very choosy even if something is cheap.  Just becasue something is a good price doesn't mean that I have to have it!
I picked up these 6 basketweave cups for ..39 cents each and love them.  2.40 is such a great price!
They go with the whole red and white theme of my Cottage Kitchen.
When we usually have friends over I'm serving them in these delicate little teacups and one of them mentioned that he was afraid to break them.  Since there were six of these mugs I had to take them home~!

And this sweet red tea towel almost didn't make it to the register but I figured 25 cents was a great price even if it sits on top of my counter.

I love my Sweetheart Red Kitchen!!!

Our Living Room

Here are some pics I took of our living room last week.
Everything in the room we inherited from our friends who were previously living here which is awesome because we have no need to rush to paint and buy furniture quickly.  I love the no pressure tactic we are taking and the room looks nice already, doesn't it?

We get lovely natural sunlight coming in our front windows and this is my fave part of the living room!
We need to fill some nail holes, replaster and repaint and I'm still on the fence about going with a pale yellow or an earth tone.  The walls are already an earth tone- difficult to tell here in this pic- but it looks very pretty.

This is my inspiration picture for my living room.
My heart's desire is to have earth tones and a pop of color here in the
living room starting with the couch.
I originally wanted red for the sofa and accents but we've been window shopping and it is difficult to find a sofa that is true red.
We've found a few brick red and burgundy but I want a cherry red that looks
bright, modern and bold!
I might have to settle for plum (if I can find that color) so we'll see.
I think Ikea has both colors but it's quite a ride over that way.
I hope to match the window treatments to my future color of choice.
More to come as we progress~

My "New" Red Basket

Since I decided on a red 'Sweetheart' Kitchen I knew I wanted a container for onions and fruits to sit on the counter.  I found one at Target but it was more of a salmon color and not a deep cherry red.

I found a wire white basket at the thrift store and the lightbulb went off.
I had already had some spray paint and I knew it would be a perfect substitution
at less than 1/5th of the cost.

Not bad I say!  I'm still hoping to find a ceramic one but this one will do until whenever I happen upon it.  And if I don't find one that's quite okay by me.
I've still got a lovely splash of red on my kitchen counter!

My Red Sweetheart Kitchen

About three weeks ago I had a burst of inspiration!   I was on Pinterest and saw this link and thought how utterly cute and perfect!  My new (to me) kitchen would fit this theme perfectly and at that very instant I knew I wanted a red Sweetheart Kitchen!  When I went to Walmart the other day I saw some red check shelf liner and knew that it would make me smile every time I opened the cabinets.  I'm silly like that!

(Forgive my picture- my white balance was preset and I forgot to change it!)
See??? Doesn't that just make you smile?
And my silverware carrier doesn't slip around in the drawer!
Perfect!
I inherited some lovely check red and crocheted dish towels from my
sweet friend Martha who made these herself.

She also made me another gift...
See the lovely braided rug at my kitchen sink?
She made that for me when I had told her my plans for my sweetheart kitchen.
Isn't it adorable?

Lots more work to go but this is my beginning~!
