If I make soups, stews, I never use the entire can of tomato sauce/paste and I hate to throw away the leftovers. In the past I would just pour it in a sandwich bag and freeze it but when I would try to use it and have to peel the bag out from the crevices of the frozen sauce and it was just kind of annoying really. Trying to break a chunk of didn't work very well either. I read over on Living on Less Money (an awesome blog!) where one of her readers spoke of putting the leftovers in dollops on wax paper, freezing them, and popping them in a bag for storage. Another person spoke of getting an ice tray for the same purpose which is a great idea. I bypassed those and this idea morphed into my own. ;)
I took my ramekins and greased them a teeny bit and poured about 2 tablespoons into each cup. I froze them and then put them in a plastic bag. They are the perfect size for adding to a meal with no waste. I made Spanish Rice yesterday and used one~ worked perfect!

ReplyDeleteHi Anna! So glad you stopped by! Thanks~ I wasn't going to post this since it seemed so silly but then I thought, why not? lol
DeleteWhat a great idea and I love how cute they turned out, lol! You can also freeze gravy in ice cube trays too.
ReplyDeleteWhen we freeze soup or tomato sauce we lay it on a tray so that it's flat. That way it dries flat and you can stack it, or you can have it "stand" up. I love your idea of the ramekins for the sauce. I don't have any but I could use my coffee cups!
Thanks so much for linking up to "Making Your Home Sing Monday" today! :)
I was going to do the same thing but, silly me, didn't want to use the aluminum. hahahaha!

DeleteTerrific idea, I'm going to try it! Drives me nuts when recipes call for a Tbsp or two and you're left with the rest of the can.
