Easy Tips for Perfect Pie Crust~

I love pie crust and making one that looks nice can sometimes be difficult~  If the weather is hot and humid it makes the dough difficult to work with.
Here are a few tips that I use to make a great looking pie crust.
Easy Tips for Perfect Pie Crust
When measuring out shortening I line my measuring cup with plastic wrap, making sure the wrap touches the entire bottom of the cup.  I scoop my shortening in the cup and there is no greasy mess to clean up.

Now, on to the rolling dough~
I place two pieces of saran wrap that is about 3-4 inches larger than my pie plate all around.  I overlap the saran wrap so it becomes one sheet.
Easy Tips for Perfect Pie Crust
Plop your pie crust in the middle and flatten it a bit.

Place two more joined pieces of plastic wrap over the top of your pie crust and roll your dough out between the two sheets of plastic wrap.

Make sure it's larger than your pie plate.
(quality of this pic stinks~  I was rushing!)
Easy Tips for Perfect Pie Crust
Remove the top layer of plastic wrap and place pie crust in pie plate, making sure that the crust hits the bottom of pie plate in all areas.  (this next picture stinks too!)
Easy Tips for Perfect Pie Crust
Remove plastic wrap and trim off edges.

Crimp your edges between two pinched fingers on one hand and your index finger and~  Voila!
Look how pretty!

  1. I love your instructions - would never have thought about lining the measuring cup with plastic - a great idea!

I was par-baking a readymade crust yesterday for a quiche - tipped out the rice I'd put in on the parchment paper to stop any bubbling, and lost the entire crust in the sink - what a fool I felt! Anyway, guess what, crustless quiche is really good and far less calories, haha!

    Happy weekend.

    1. I'm sure crustless quiche is good too! I probably should have baked it a bit before assembling. ;)

  4. Loved the tips! Wow, you must be a pie making pro! I usually use pre-made crust but sometimes I think I ought to try my hand again at making them from scratch. I've done it before.

Thanks for linking up to the "Making Your Home Sing Monday" linky party today! :)
